How Long Island Center for Recovery (LICR) Treats Valium Addiction

Valium addiction treatment begins with medically supervised detox. Valium addiction, like many other benzodiazepines, can be deadly during the withdrawal period without the proper tapering off and support. Stopping cold-turkey can lead to seizures as well as other life-threatening impacts so clients attending for valium addiction treatment go through the proper tapering off detox for at least the first 5-7days.

Even during the detox period, clients are encouraged to join groups and meetings at our inpatient treatment facility. The valium withdrawal period can feel daunting but it helps to have the support of others who are going through the same or similar experiences to share in positive outputs and focus towards a successful sobriety.

Group sessions are a wonderful support but many valium addictions stem from client’s feelings of anxiety, so individual sessions focus on techniques and skills to manage anxiety as feelings of anxiousness set in. These tend to be the strongest post-acute withdrawal symptom for clients recovering from a Valium addiction, so it’s essential that clients take full advantage of these individual sessions to learn how to identify the feelings of anxiety, and cope with them without the eventual use of Valium or other benzodiazepines.

Additional Recommended Therapies For Valium Addiction Treatment

Beyond the group and individual sessions, Valium addiction clients are also recommended to take advantage of the following holistic approaches:

Utilizing these forms of holistic therapy and treatment will help clients begin to control their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors as they progress in their valium addiction treatment. The full allotment of programs is what increases the success of our clients, relying only on psychoeducation through individual and group therapy sessions can only go so far. These holistic therapies bring peace back to the body and brain, allowing clients to absorb and process the information they’re gaining, specifically following their withdrawal and detoxification period.

Frequently asked questions from clients seeking Valium treatment at Long Island Center for Recovery (LICR)

How long will I take medication, and will I feel sick?

Long Island Center for Recovery’s medically supervised detox protocol is typically 5-7days long depending on the individual client, the amount of Valium used, and length of time using Valium. Clients have consistently reported very minimal discomfort with this time frame as 5-7 days allows for a slower, gentler taper than a 3–5-day detox would.

Will I learn how to manage my anxiety?

Many clients come to us, addicted to Valium, and reporting high levels of anxiety before and during their active use, and so they are afraid that they won’t be able to cope without the use of Valium. At LICR, clients will learn how the cycle of use/abuse/addiction leads to an actual increase of anxiety and how in the early recovery, feelings of anxiousness may be triggering. Clients will begin to learn coping skills immediately upon entering Valium treatment and will work with their treatment team to strengthen those skills over the course of their 28 day stay.
