LICR BulletinAt Long Island Center for Recovery Inc., we believe healing happens in many ways, not just in therapy groups or counseling sessions, but also in moments of laughter, movement, and connection. This summer, our team put together a Field Day event for our patients, and it turned out to be one of the most joy-filled days we’ve had in a while.
The day was packed with classic field day activities that sparked friendly competition, teamwork, and plenty of smiles. Patients teamed up for a water balloon toss, showed off their creativity at the tie-dye station, and raced their way through sponge relays and egg-and-spoon challenges. Italian ices capped off the afternoon, offering a refreshing and nostalgic treat to cool down after all the action.
What made the day truly special, though, wasn’t just the games or the sunshine, it was the sense of community that emerged. Patients cheered each other on, laughed freely, and relaxed in a space that felt safe and lighthearted. These shared experiences play a meaningful role in recovery, helping to rebuild trust, improve communication, and remind everyone that joy is a part of healing too.
The day wrapped up with a much-anticipated staff vs. patients water balloon fight, and let’s just say, no one left dry. It was the perfect ending to a day full of connection, play, and some very real therapeutic value.
We’re grateful to our staff for organizing the event, and to patients for showing up, participating, and reminding us all what resilience and fun can look like in recovery.
